Overview

Brick and Byte is committed towards reducing carbon footprints to benefit the climate and human health in general. As a step in that direction Brick and Byte helps companies and individuals to set up solar thermal plant using LFR technology, solar PV based rural electrification, solar system for street lights, water pumps, Toll and highway traffic management systems, etc. It also promotes the use of LED lights street lights and commercial complexes as a measure to reduce the energy consumption. The details of these activities are given below.

Solar Thermal Technology

Brick and Byte has developed indigenous technologies in the space of clean and green energy, particularly solar and solar energy related initiative by a group of eminent and experienced scientists and entrepreneurs.

  • The emphasis was on mastering core technologies, fundamentally sound designs based upon simulation and experimental data, and keeping commercial goals in mind.
  • By putting in 4 - 5 years of dedicated efforts, Brick and Byte developed a design breakthrough technology as its first achievement, viz. Linear Fresnel Reflector (LFR) platform based on Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and demonstrated it in Osmanabad by generating steam of desired temperature and pressure.
  • It is Pride in being the first developer of indigenous solar energy technologies and its applications.
  • Patent for this indigenous developed technology filed and is under progress.
  • This system is matched to produce heat energy for VAM (Vapour Absorption Machine) units. This VAM technology is utilizes Lithium Bromide solution. We have close tie up with leaders in the cooling technology.
  • The initial thrust of development was producing steam at high temperatures and pressure suitable for electrical power generation. On achieving this, special designs were developed for steam generation that is compatible to solar cooling mechanisms.
  • Though current plant was installed for technology demonstration, it can be very easily engineered for custom requirements and achieve the desired robustness.
    • Partnership with the State Government: It is well established that availability of cold storage units at village level is the missing link for efficient supply chain of fruits and vegetables. As a result, almost 30 to 40 % of the produce perishes before reaching the customer. Solar energy based cold storage. Many state governments are looking for solution to solve the above problem. It may be possible to approach farmers associations and National Horticulture Mission to set up cold storage plants based on Solar Thermal energy. B&B would be happy to partner in such a venture as Technology Partner to provide IT enabled Solar Thermal platform.
    • Partnership with Private Companies: Many private companies are showing interest to purchase power instead of setting up plants. Some of them are willing to consider setting up captive power plants based on Solar Thermal technology. We would explore OPEN ACCESS license to set up power generation plant in Osmanabad and sell electricity to customers in any other state through the grid. If customer indicates power purchase rate and his interest specifically in solar energy based power, we would conduct feasibility study and indicate if it would be possible to provide power at the desired rate.
    • Solar Thermal energy for energy efficiency in processing industry: Processing industry management is getting energy audit done to take steps towards energy efficient operation of their plants. The energy auditors would be aware how energy efficiency could be achieved and can very well relate value of solar thermal plant for such industries. It would be worth exploring the partnership with Energy Auditors.
Solar PV based Rural Electrification

Our Solar PV based rural electrification solution provides power for basic requirements such as lighting & low power consumption appliances for specific time every day. Renewable energy sources can provide low cost electricity to the rural sector.

  • One Cluster (Solar panel, Battery, CCU, GSM RTU) can distribute load (say 2 LED lights and one mobile charger) to 10nos houses for 8hours. Clusters can be designed as per requirement and site conditions.
  • System has source of Solar. In Load distribution shelter there are device such as Solar PV mounted on Pole, Smart Box consisting of charge controller, Battery and RTU.
  • Remote telemetry Unit has GSM/GPRS modem using this modem, it collects the data from Charge Controller and Battery Monitor System and this data is send to Aware Software Application Server.
Solar PV based Street Lights

End to End Solution with Solar PV, Specially Developed Battery, Pole and required structure for mounting, Solar LED and RTU for remote monitoring.

  • LED (Light Emitting Diode) is an optical solid state device; it emits light when a specified voltage is applied across its terminals. These LEDs are used for lighting products instead conventional bulbs, Florescent Tube lights and CFL. These are very efficient and nonhazardous compare to conventional lights. LED devices consume very small power and emit light of very low density like 100 lumen to several thousand Lumen of light. Numerous LEDs are clustered together to avail required brightness.
  • Special features are:

  • Specially Developed Battery
    • It is the integrated battery storage device that contains MPPT charger, Light Sensor, LED Driver and long life high temperature Lithium batteries.     • It stores enough energy to run a standard LED street lamp for about 20 hours. Given sufficient solar power, it can be charged fully within 4 hours.

Solar System for Water Pumping

Solar PV based System is specially developed for water pumping. It includes Pump Photovoltaic Panels, Controller, Special Structure and AC Motor. Controller is a combination of Inverter, MPPT and VFD. It uses the generated power from PV and converts in required form for AC Motor. Solar energy which is abundant on earth can be harnessed for this purpose.

  • This system works at its best during any time of the day at any kind of sunlight. The induction motor has very high starting current which is around four times of the running current of the motor. The VFD in controller eliminates the high starting current of the induction motor. Because of the smooth start using VFD, the motor will start as early as even 9am and works till 5:30pm. It delivers maximum water during 10am to 4pm.

Solar System for TOLL and Advance Highway Traffic Management System

Advanced Highway Traffic Management System is intended to improve safety and the commuters are empowered with prompt information on relevant traffic situations. Different systems like CCTV surveillance, Video Incident Detectors, Speed Enforcement, and Automatic Number Plate Reading are used on Highways and Tunnels.

Power requirement for such high priority system on highway is of prime importance. Passing through long stretch, power availability is major issue.
